BRIEF // Design a book celebrating the 50-year partnership between New Zealand and the United States of America in Antarctica. The book outlines the collaboration between these two countries’ scientists; an enduring relationship seeking to explore and understand this great continent.
SOLUTION // The simple yet striking front cover of Antarctic Partners encapsulates the tone of the entire book. Photography was supplied from various sources, and each image captures Antarctica in a unique way. The geographic position of Antarctica is displayed as a spot UV on the cover and throughout the dividers of the book. This illustrates the direction of travel that both nations make,
while emphasising Antarctica’s isolation. An extensive roll-fold pull-out from the inside front cover highlights the vastness of Antarctica, revealing a panoramic view of an ice shelf. The flexible grid allows the photos to play a key part, while linking typography, colour, composition and historical content. Antarctic Partners received two highly commended awards in the 2008 Pride in Print Awards.
